INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
My intention is to light up NYC through the creation of a true Baptiste Yoga community and to empower leaders to be in their fullest expression.

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
It’s a toss up between Lincoln Center, right before the curtain goes up at New York City Ballet, and Morrell Wine Bar, during the holidays, sitting at the corner of the bar near the window, vino in hand, with a clear shot of that beautiful Rockefeller tree in the company of people I love.

HOME:
I have three distinct hometowns: Chicago, Illinois; Bainbridge, Ohio; and lastly, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. I was slowly moving my way toward NYC!

SONG THAT MAKES YOU DANCE:
“Freedom”by George Michael – always and forever.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
It always works. I learn and grow every time I step onto the mat.


TERRI BAHR

Beginning as a personal fitness trainer, Terri went on to study yoga with Baron Baptiste and is a Certified Baptiste Teacher with over 500 hours of training. She has also studied with other world-renowned teachers such as Seane Corn and Jonny Kest. Prior to relocating to New York, Terri was a senior level teacher for 10 years at Cleveland Yoga, a Baptiste Affiliate studio.

Terri brings a unique combination of fitness experience to students of all levels, and promotes best practices for holistic strength, flexibility and healing. She is committed to supporting her students deepen their understanding of yoga and advocates fitness in the body, mind and spirit. Terri has developed a unique, playful and creative approach to teaching with a focus on awareness and alignment as well as balance between strength, flexibility and breath. She encourages her students to look beyond the mat to embrace transformation in their daily lives.

As an active supporter and mentor of Africa Yoga Project (AYP), she has contributed to the organization’s initiative that creates jobs and empowers leaders. Last April, Terri traveled to Kenya to assist a 200 hour teacher training program as part of Africa Yoga Project’s growth and expansion.

Terri lives in Park Slope with her boyfriend, Robert, his daughter Phebe and dog Bella.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
My intention is to build a creative and playful space that facilitates the union of breath and movement unleashing the true power of yoga.

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
Turks & Frogs in the West Village for a nightcap.

HOME:
Kansas. I clicked my heels 3 times and wound up in NYC!

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
I find that whenever I have reached the edge of a pose, I realize it’s just the beginning!


ANDREW BASS

Andrew was a competitive gymnast and wrestler from the age of 3. After discovering running in his 20s, he ultimately began to experience many of the injuries associated with that form of exercise. Looking for a way to cross train, he took his first yoga class at a Baptiste studio in Jacksonville, Florida in 2011. Given his background in gymnastics and wrestling, he immediately felt right at home on his yoga mat.

By April 2013, Andrew completed his 200 Hour Yoga training at his local Baptiste studio in Florida and in June 2013 attended Baron’s Level 1 Training in Sedona, AZ. He also attended a Baptiste Art of Assisting workshop in 2013 and plans on attending Level 2Training early next year.

Andrew currently lives in the East Village.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
As a teacher I want to inspire my students to practice intention both inside the studio and outside in the real world, in addition to finding ease, joy, and laughter on their mat (while still getting a great workout!).

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
My favorite place in NYC is any diner that serves good Matzo Ball soup.

HOME:
My hometown is Marlboro, NJ.

SONG THAT MAKES YOU DANCE:
Guilty pleasure, but I love the entire soundtrack to “Footloose”. Because I grew up doing gymnastics, as a kid I used to dream I was Ren MacCormack.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
Without hesitation it’s the people! Being surrounded by such a strong community of likeminded people who are committed to leading fuller, healthier lives inspires me to stay focused on my individual growth as a student and a teacher.


VERONICA NAUGHTER

Veronica‘s been practicing yoga for over 10 years and is a 200 HR Yoga Alliance certified teacher. She completed her Level 1 Training with Baron Baptiste in August 2013 and Art of Assisting in March 2014. She will be attending Level 2 Training in October 2014 to continue her training in the Baptiste methodology.
Veronica holds a Masters in Teaching and taught Spanish at the middle school level for over eight years. She enjoyed guiding students in their path of learning and providing them with the necessary tools to take ownership of their knowledge. Veronica feels lucky to have been able to merge her love of teaching with her passion for yoga.
Veronica lives in New Providence, New Jersey with her husband, Denis, and their two children, Sean and Anna.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
My intention is to offer students the opportunity to shed what is necessary to find their best selves and become empowered through their practice.

I love Central Park every season of the year.

HOME:

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
This practice allows me to let go of what’s needed to grow or shift my perspective. Getting on my mat gives me a reality check of who I truly am and how I want to stand for others in my life. It gives me access to my power and reminds me that I am capable of achieving my goals.


ANNIE FISCO

Annie studied sports medicine and taught holistic health as well as other wellness and fitness disciplines. She fell in love with Baptiste Power Yoga a few years agoand naturally yoga was an extraordinary complement to her life. Annie has completed Level 1 and Level 2 Teacher Training and is 300-HR certified. She completed her training at Pure NYC with Kay Kay Clivio and Yogi Charu and completed an additional training with Loren Bassett focusing on Hot Power Vinyasa. Annie also studied with Raghunath, Sean Corn and Leslie Kaminoff.

She is excited to build the Baptiste community, and share her passion with you.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
My goal is to make others feel “it” on and off the mat with my powerful, athletic and uplifting yoga flow. Yoga has had such a positive effect and impact on my life physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally and I want toempower others to live in their fullest expression. Be open to possibility.

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
My favorite place in NYC is Central Park; the energy even on a slow day is incredible.

HOME:
I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio. NYC is now my home.

SONG THAT MAKES YOU DANCE:
Madonna. Every song. And Justin Timberlake (of course!) with some Rihanna sprinkled in.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
Every day my practice is different, and when I challenge myself, I push myself beyond my comfort zone, into a new space, new possibility. It brings me more confidence, my practice and my life.


MICHELLE SWIATKOWSKI

Michelle’s journey into Baptiste yoga began in 2008 while living abroad in Sydney, Australia. Upon her return home to Ohio in 2009, she began to attend trainings with Baron Baptiste and Senior Faculty, completing Teacher Training Levels One, Two, and Three, as well as Art of Assisting. She is a 200-hr Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance. She continues to study the Baptiste methodology and is in the process of Baptiste Certification.

Currently, Michelle is taking courses to become a holistic health coach. When not at Lyons Den, she teaches yoga to elementary school students in Brooklyn. She loves to cook, eat, sleep, and snuggle.

Michelle lives in Stuy Town with her roommate and their cactus.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
I believe that growth and transformation happen when students leave their comfort zone and push through their boundaries.

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
Benny’s in the West Village. I am a sucker for tacos and cheap margaritas.

HOME:
Born and raised in Akron, Ohio. When visiting, I guest teach at Akron’s only power vinyasa yoga studio, Yoga Bliss.

SONG THAT MAKES YOU DANCE:
I can shake it to anything. If I really want to let loose, I’ll put on “Ice, Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice or “U Can’t Touch This” by M.C. Hammer.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
Every time I think I am at my edge, I can go a little further. Breakthroughs happen when I commit to the process and live on the edge of the unknown!


JENNIFER HEISTER

After practicing Baptiste yoga for 10 years, Jennifer completed her Training with Baron Baptiste in 2008 and continues to practice and assist Baron Baptiste. Jennifer is 200-HR certified with the Yoga Alliance as well as a Certified Baptiste Teacher. She is also a Certified Ki-Power Vinyasa Teacher and, in 2010 spent a year studying under one of Sri Dharma Mittra’s assistants. The love and appreciation for the classical teachings of Dharma Yoga still influences her teaching today. She is certified in Thai Massage Sacred Bodywork and is a lululemon Ambassador.

Raised in upstate New York, Jennifer’s childhood was playing soccer, lacrosse, and riding horses. After graduating from Old Dominion University on a Division I Lacrosse Scholarship, she discovered yoga and was hooked on the physical and spiritual challenge. Jennifer teaches a playful and challenging flow emphasizing strength, alignment, and breath to empower the mind for a deep spiritual connection.

Jennifer lives in Bedstuy with her boyfriend Joel and his son Jair, their son Grey, their dog, Quest and cat, Alaska.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
My intention as a powerful leader and teacher is to inspire others to be badass. I want to co-create a warm community and amazing ‘yoga home’ for people in NYC.

My intention is to bring passion, fun and connection into every class and to inspire every student to step up to their edge and into the amazing possibility waiting outside of their comfort zone.

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
The Subway System for keeping it REAL when I always seem to need it the most.

HOME:
Girard, PA. There were more people working in the first building I worked at in New York City than the town I grew up in.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
The constant reminder of what is possible and when I show up on the mat I realize how much power I have to affect positive change in my life and in the world.


BROOKE EASTON

Brooke went to college at the University at Buffalo and graduated with a degree in Biology in 2012. She completed Level One Training with Baron Baptiste in the Catskills in August 2011. The following year she attended the Art of Assisting in Cleveland, Ohio and completed Level Two Training in September 2012. She is currently working to complete her Baptiste Certification.

In July 2013 Brooke travelled to Nairobi, Kenya through the Africa Yoga Project as a part of the Research Mission 2013 team. While in Kenya she studied how Africa Yoga Project has changed the lives of both the teachers and students of the program.

She now lives on the Upper East Side with her boyfriend.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
As a teacher I hope to empower my students to see where they are limiting themselves in their lives and to discover possibility in every moment.

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
My favorite place in NYC is the Ramble in Central Park.

HOME:
I’m originally from Webster, NY.

SONG THAT MAKES YOU DANCE:
The song I can dance my face off to is forever changing, but “Ignition”(remix) by R. Kelly is always a safe bet.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
One thing about this practice that surprises and delights me is that no matter how long you’ve been doing it there is always something to work on. Whether you’re stepping onto your mat for the first time or the millionth, there is always something more to be learned.


SARA PACKARD

An original New Yorker, albeit upstate-er, Sara Packard has considered NYC her home from the time she can remember stepping onto the pavement. After graduating from Ithaca College with a B.F.A. in Musical Theater, Sara made her way to New York to pursue her career in theater. It wasn’t until she left again 6 years later to try out life in California that she really discovered yoga. She began practicing and working at Zuda Yoga in Sacramento and under the guide of Anne Marie Kramer completed her 200 hr. Teacher Training. She has also completed her Level One training with Baron Baptiste and continues to explore, grow and be inspired by the amazing Baptiste Community. She has now been teaching yoga full time for over 5 years and has had the honor of teaching at several studios and thousands of students in Syracuse, NY, Boston and NYC and is so grateful to be lighting it up at “The Den”! Sara lives in Brooklyn with her amazingly talented husband Justin and their pug, Oscar.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
To inspire, uplift, and motivate my students and those around me to really live their lives with authenticity, creativity and passion. Also to listen and learn from those around to me so that I may continue to find my authenticity, creativity and passion and be both teacher and student of this powerful community!

Lincoln Center. All of that art and creativity brings a smile to my face and peace to my heart!

I am originally from Elmira, NY. Mark Twain lived there!

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
That the yoga mat is a mirror to life! What comes up in our practice, the hardships the triumphs have a direct connection to what shows up in our daily experiences. How we practice our yoga is how we live our life and the beauty is that we get to “practice” how we want to live on our mat so that we can then go out and live it!!


JULIE BRAZITIS

Julie moved to New York City from San Francisco two years ago and instantly fell in love with Baptiste yoga after taking her first class. As a former gymnast and a full-time professional at Google, she found yoga as a way to cope with injury, transition and the demands of her career.

In 2014, Julie took her practice to the next level and trained with Baron Baptiste & Paige Elenson completing Level One & Level Two Teacher Training, as well as Art of Assisting. Julie is thrilled to begin her teaching journey as a lioness and is in the Baptiste certification process.

When not in the yoga studio or the office, Julie serves as Chair of the Young Leaders Council of United Way NYC. She also loves to travel & to ski – preferably at the same time.

Julie lives in the West Village.

My intention as a Lyons Den teacher is to inspire this powerful yoga community to practice freely & fearlessly and open up to new possibility both on and off the mat.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
Each and every time I step onto my mat, I find new power in my body and new clarity & possibility in my life. No matter where I am in the world, yoga brings me home.


ANNETTE SHANTUR

Annette grew up in the upstate NY woods of Ithaca where she discovered the wonders of yoga through her best friend, Cassie, and second mother, Tory. She studied Philosophy at Colgate University and spent summers living and teaching in Mexico, Israel, and Morocco.

Since moving to NYC, Annette has worked by day for the DiMenna Center for Classical Music and spent many other waking hours at Lyons Den. There she has found the encouragement, love and support to dive into Level 1 Training with Baron Baptiste, Art of Assisting and Level 2 Training with Paige Elenson.

Having difficulty knowing which way is up in this whirlwind of a city, she is grateful for the orienting powers of True North Alignment, and is excited to share this journey with the yogis of NYC and beyond.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
To make space for something NEW alongside fellow yogis, in both mind and body. To bring playfulness and ease!

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
Anywhere with trees (they’re hard to find around here!)

HOME:

Anything that reminds me of good friends and good times–at the moment it’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, but really, anything with a funky fresh beat.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
The strange, unknowable and truly amazing relationship of asana to the mind. The more I learn, the less I know.


DIAMOND ZUCHLINSKI

Diamond found Baptiste Yoga in Washington DC after graduating college and jumped right in, heart first with a regular practice. She took her passion one step further by completing the 200 hour teacher training in October 2012 and Art of Assisting training in January 2013 at Down Dog Yoga. Diamond went on to complete Level 1Teacher Training with Baron Baptiste in August 2013 and Level 2 Teacher Training in October 2014.

She has also been an oncology nurse since 2006, has worked with yoga for cancer patients and completed YCaT (Yoga for people with cancer and chronic illness) training with Jnani Chapman in November 2013 through Integral Yoga Institute.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
To be open to possibilities both on the yoga mat and in the daily life of NYC.

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
The Flatiron Room because it has a chill atmosphere and great live jazz music. When I go here i feel like I’m transported back in time to the 1920′s.

HOME:
I grew up in Bangor, Pennsylvania, but recently found my new home here in NYC. I love this city.

SONG THAT MAKES YOU DANCE:
Daft Punk – “Get Lucky” – Just thinking about the song puts a little wiggle to my step!

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
Each time I get on my mat I get excited for the journey I’m about to take. I never know what is going to happen and that’s what is surprising about this practice.


MEG MCNEAL

Meg first found herself on the mat in 2000 at a small town gym with an Ashtanga teacher. She loved the intensity of the practice, the physical challenge of the poses, and the residual effects on her mental state. After moving to Philadelphia, Meg took her first Baptiste Power Yoga class at Power Yoga Works and she was hooked! She began having a daily practice after participating in the 40 Days to a Personal Revolution program hosted at the studio and signed up for the Power Yoga Works teacher training immediately afterwards becoming certified in 2008. Meg then went on to participate Level 1 and Level 2 with Baron Baptiste in 2008 and 2009 which was and surprisingly continues to be a transformative experience in all aspects of her life.

Meg has continued her yoga education with Sharon Gannon and David Life and became a certified Jivamukti teacher in 2013. Currently in the 800 hour Jivamukti apprenticeship program, Meg enjoys delving deeper into other yogic practices, sanskrit, sacred texts, and learning how to physically assist her students to encourage them to move deeper into their practice. She is also in the process of becoming a Baptiste certified teacher.

Before transitioning to teaching yoga full time, Meg was a Spanish teacher and high school guidance counselor. Meg was most recently living in Johannesburg, South Africa teaching at the American International School but has moved back to New York because there is no place on Earth like it. Meg now resides in Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn, surrounded by some of her best friends.

INTENTION AS A LYONS DEN POWER YOGA TEACHER:
My intention is to empower New Yorkers to access their fullest potential so they can inspire others to do the same through their way of being!

FAVORITE NYC HAUNT:
The Union Square Greennmarket around 7am, just as they are setting up for the day.

HOME:
In the few years I have lived here, New York has felt more like home than any other place I have resided though I grew up in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

SONG THAT MAKES YOU DANCE:
“Vivrant Thing” by Q-Tip. Every. Single. Time.

WHAT SURPRISES/INSPIRES ME ABOUT THIS PRACTICE:
The Baptiste practice is accessible and empowering for everybody and it works! What surprises me every time I step onto my mat in a Baptiste class, it feels like coming home.


PAIGE ELENSON

Paige Elenson is the director and co-creator of the Africa Yoga Project, an organization that is globally changing lives through the transformative power of yoga. A native New Yorker, Paige has been teaching the dynamic practice of Baptiste Yoga for almost 10 years, and is certified in the AcroYoga and Jivamukti methods. Whether teaching in New York or Nairobi, Paige’s classes will leave you inspired and “up to something big” on your mat and in your life.
